The Orchid Asia Africa Expo (part 1)

A few weeks ago we visited the Orchid Asia Africa Expo which held on 9 - 13 May 20 2012. The location was at Bank Indonesia parking lot, Jl. Braga, Bandung - West Java.  Though we arrived quite early, there were already some visitors inside. The orchid expo was followed by dozens of participants with various types of booths just like the ones below.

Here you, the orchid lovers, will find various kinds of orchids in many colors and species.  From the very beginning seed (still tiny plants in the bottle)  up to the growing and blooming ones. From the ordinary one such as the  Phalaenopsis amabilis or in Indonesia called as 'Anggrek bulan', up to the rare species from Sumatra andKalimantan that are almost extinct. 

And these are some of the species that uncommonly seen. Beautiful, colorful, rare, and almost extinct. Very attractive aren't they?

Flower Today: Mini Carnation Flowers

Mini Carnation Flower is another variation of carnation but smaller in size. It's also called spray carnation. Each stem contains several blooms which has lots of ruffled. It's perfect to any wedding bouquet or table centerpiece.

When hasn't bloomed yet, it looks like baby tulip with ruffles on its edge? Very adorable.

Simple Recycle Idea

To make a flower arrangements for home décor, most people will think of expensive vase, a beautiful complicated arrangements and so on. Well, there’s price, there’s quality. A unique, and artful vase is surely expensive, but yes, they will give an elegant touch to your home. Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean that a more affordable vase will surely look bad and cheapy as a décor. This arrangement is one proof of it. Made by using used sauce bottles, the flower arrangement will make your house look more lovely and also help save the earth by reducing waste! What a good idea!!!

To make this arrangement, you will need yellow fiji, another varian of chrysanthemum, ivy leaves, floral green plastic tubes and some wire. First, fill in the floral tube with water then put its cap tightly. Put the stem of ivy into the tube through the cap then make circles of ivy. Do this until the desired thickness and size then secure with wire. Then put three green bottles (you can use beer bottles, sauce bottles etc, but best in same size and colors and labels removed). Put the ivy circle on them, secure the bottles and ivy circle together with wire (must be strong enough so not to fall off). Last, put one fiji or chrysanthemum flower in each bottle…done!!

And here is another idea of arranging the chrysanthemums : first get a small plastic used-bottle (you can use plastic bottles for yoghurt or other kinds of drink), wrap it with colored tisue paper, and put some furry wire around it, secure the wire to a long branch. Do the same with the other bottles and branches.Then just put the chrysanthemums into it!! So, now you have a pots-tree-like with chrysanthemum flower in it.

Flower Arranging Demo at Hero Supermarket

There’s a basket… there’re the flowers…. can you guess where we are?

Yeeessss!!!! We’re at a flower arranging demooo!!!! It seemed just yesterday that we posted a lot on IPBI demo regarding 2012-14 wedding bouquet trend, and guess what? This time it’s held at Hero Supermarket, BSM Mall Bandung. And we’re invited to come.

Whooaa, Hero supermarket sure has new concept! It’s more spacious with elegant interior, and not to mention nice lighting too!! No need to photoshop the picture! The flower demo were held near the entrance area. Here we saw the lecturers, Mrs. Angelina, Mrs. Winny and Mr. Okky. They’re divided into two sections, one on the flower pot part and the others were on the hand bouquet and wrapping part.

All the participants were eager to try out the flower pot arrangements, as not everyday you could attend a workshop like this for free.

Wedding Church Décor: White-Green Theme

A pure all white wedding is classic for sure, but sometimes it’s just too common. To make it look different, why don't you try to put a little different colour in it, such as green? This main altar centerpiece for instance, from afar the overall theme is simple elegant white, right?

But when you look at a bit closer, the flower arrangement actually consisted of a number of other color such as light pink, light yellow and quite a lot of green so when the guests saw them, the decor would not be just plain white.

These are some of the flowers that we used on this white-green theme wedding décor, such as snapdragon, lilies, roses, anthurium, shamrock, chrysants, baby's breath and spray carnations while the foliage is phylo sellum, dracaena reflexa and cordyline leaf.

First of all sorry for the blurry picture, but you can still see the white lily as the main focus in this flower arrangements in front of the psalmist. However, a little bit of yellow roses here and there actually won’t destroy the theme.

And last, here’s the close up look of the flower arrangements in front of Jesus and Mary statues. In here, the yellow and green colored flowers were put almost at the bottom, while all upper flowers were white. Nice, wasn't it? So even if you want a white theme wedding décor, don’t limit yourself with just white color. a little combination won’t hurt and it actually will make the décor look more alive.

Our Community Easter Party

Yup, it’s custom flower project time…… It’s been a while since we're making the last custom project, but this time Floplus did it again!!!! It's for our church community Easter party. Well, post Easter actually, we made this flower pot arrangement, inspired by our workshop at Hero supermarket a few days before. In this arrangement we used daisies, roses, caspea, ivy and lily paris leaf. Lovely isn’t it?

The party itself was held at Mrs. Yoke's house, quite a lot of us came, including the men and children. Since easter is identical with egg, there’s the egg decorating contest, in only 15 minutes… sheesh, so little time!! Since most of us are ladies, it’s not surprising that flowers are quite popular as decorating themes.

And here's all the participants' eggs!!!! They're about 25 decorated eggs on the console table. I chose a lotus flower theme with a bunny inside, while little Flo made the blue chicken. No.., not because she loves chicken, but because she wanted a décor theme that can be done quickly and use as little material as possible (smart girl!). 

The judge was supposed to be Annabelle, the baby girl, here shown she’s studying the row of decorated eggs. However, since she couldn’t decide, the judging job went to Mr. Chris, our choir teacher.

What’s a party without food? And this time it was the all Indonesian food party!!!

Thankful, our eggs went into the best ten and we both won prizes which consisted of snacks, chocolate and a reading glasses!!! And each people who was present seemed having such a fun time that day!!!!

Wedding Church Décor: Pink to Orange Theme

Helloo… we meet again with our usual wedding church décor ideas. This time the colour tone is pink to orange. The flowers used are lilies, 4 types of roses (Universe, Avalance, Aleandra, Amandini), snapdragon, gerberas, daisies and the foliage is florida beauty, cordyline, dracaena.

Flower Today: Bi-color Carnation

Bicolor carnation is a type of carnation which has 2 colors in its petals. 

Bicolor white and pink carnation flowers. 

These carnations have white petals with soft pink edges. Look at the ruffles, very alike lace on the clothes, isn't it? Very amazing!

Wedding Bouquet Trend 6 : Bold Lady

This bouquet might not look so different with our previous post about long style wedding bouquet, but this time it's done in bold color!!! Red, red, red……

First make a bouquet of red roses, keep the long stem. Then wrap with red ribbon like the one in the lily wedding bouquet post. Make a bow ribbon, and attach it also.

Again, use red floral wire to make the accent but this time it’s in heart shapes. Make a few then attach them on the flower by using special flower glue. No, this glue will not ruin the flower shape.

Since the flowers are red and the wire are red, add a few sparkles with flower pins in pearl color. Insert them into few of the roses …and done!!!! Like the previous lily wedding bouquet, this rose bouquet seems simple from afar but the detail will show up close.

Wedding Bouquet Trend 5 : Bling It on!!

Don’t be shy baby… all the lights on You!!! Yes, why just a simple nondescript wedding hand bouquet? You get married only once in a lifetime !!! (if you’re lucky :D) So, this might be the one and only chance for you to shine !!!!!

Okay, for you who don’t want to stand out much… READ NO MORE, but for all of you, glam baby out there, this style is perfect for you. This stunning caged-like (which is full metal and beads) wedding bouquet in white and blue theme screams out : look at me!!!

From afar and up close, this blue wedding hand bouquet will catch all attention. And that is why this one is also our favorite! Oh, and yeah, this one is not cheap either… sorry.

They’re all the gears needed in producing the stunning effect : the strands of blue beads, light blue floral wire, indian bracelets. Yes, bracelets, lots of them - (picture above), and of course the frame for the bouquet which looks like a carrousel… the only flower used was white roses to make all the accessories stand out more. (picture below)

Started of with a simple round shaped white roses bouquet (image 1), see when the bouquet was inserted into the frame before all the accessories…. it doesn't look nice (image 2). Then decorate the frame with blue wire, bracelets and all the beads (image 3) Insert the bouquet again, and voila!!! The effect looks very different. (image 4)

To make the white roses look connected with the blue cage, a few more beads were attached on the roses by using thin floral wire… and it’s done! The image below shows how you’re supposed to hold the bouquet.

This is how the bouquet looks from upfront and underneath is the detail. Really I never thought Indian bracelets can be used as wedding hand bouquet decoration. Bravo for the decorator!!!!

BEWARE : many guests might take pics of the bouquet more than pics of you :D

Wedding Bouquet Trend 4 : No Compromise; All Natural!!

So, you’re not interested in wedding hand bouquet with lots of intricate detail? Does all the glueing and shaping make the flower lose it’s natural beauty to you? Don’t worry, ‘all natural' theme is in the wedding hand bouquet trend too…

To achieve this, use the hand tied technique. It doesn't need a holder and the flowers and foliage will be tied only. Few wire's still needed as accent, but mostly contains of just the flowers. Very natural!!!!

The first of course preparing the flowers and foliage. For this bouquet you need  carnation, baby's breath and ruscus. The flowers used must be cleaned up from its branches, leaves and thorn (if you use 'roses'). For the baby's breath, cut them small according to its branches then each of them tied with floral wire. Make few as needed. This will ensure the baby's breath length and size be equal to one another and so it fits the flower bouquet proportionally (not to thick but not too rare as well)

After that, it’s turn for Mr. Harry to demonstrate how to make the hand tied. First he took a carnation then ruscus, put together alternately while twisting it, and then the baby's breath was added. He did it again in the same way until the desired shape and size achieved. Looked easy watching him doing this, but surprisingly not that easy to make. Just try it!! It needs strong fingers to hold tightly all the flowers and foliage without changing their position while twisting in the same time.

Last, tie them tightly and cut the stems into the desired length, then finished!!! The hand tied wedding bouquet must be able to stand on its own. To hold, simply grab them, don’t worry the flower bouquet shape won’t change.

A few more different angles from the hand tied wedding bouquet. Its appeal is indeed in their natural beauty.
