White – Yellow Theme Wedding Church Décor on Advent

As we mentioned before, during Advent there were still marriage ceremonies at the Cathedral St. Peter. Therefore, Margriet team should have to prepare the decor for them too. And this was some of the pictures we documented.

Some of the materials used are golden heliconia, cigar flowers, roses of Mohana, and peacock.

Church Décor on Advent Weeks

Four weeks before Christmas is Advent. This year, it was started on Nov 24 and will last till Dec 23. During Advent, the church decor is more dominated by foliage than flowers. Though there were bit of flowers used, they should be matched with the foliage so we usually use green hydrangea, bromelia, croton and tri-color. The last two are actually leaves but have a wide range of colors.

And here’s the decoration in front of the Altar. The materials are kadaka or asplenium, phillo sellum, tri-color, fern, leather leaf and those big light purple flowers are not hydrangea but a kind of that … sorry, don’t know the real name. My friend, Diana bought them from the seller in front of her house. And this is the first time we use them. (image below)

Some members of Margriet who were on duty at that time, quite a lot ya, but there was much work too, since it was the first advent week so it should be more special than the other weeks. Besides, though it’s advent there were 3 marriage ceremonies on Sat and Sunday. So, Margriet still had to prepare the chair and pew decoration, the bouquets and candle offerings to Mary. Wedding Flower Ideas by Eunice Teo (2) : A Unique Taste Bouquet with Hypericum

Detail… detail…. The first thing that attracted me to this bridal bouquet is the huge cactus or a kind of succulent at the center of the bouquet, then the pink-fuschia hypericum which is very eye-catching. It’s needed for the color.

Here’s how the bouquet looks like from the front. It’s a cascading shape with dried Lotus leaves hanging on the left and right side and also used the bird nest.  They’re not only to make texture but also give a unique taste to the bouquet since it’s not custom to use such materials on bouquet.

And this is how the bridal bouquet look like from the side. Overall it looks nice.
That’s it for today’s bridal bouquet ideas. Be patient for our next post!!!

Wedding Flower Ideas by Eunice Teo (1): Intro

Another wedding flower ideas series!!! Yup, this year we’re pushing it by giving you all more and more bridal bouquets and wedding flower ideas. This time it’s a flower demo from Eunice Teo, AIFD, she’s from Malaysia and there’s even some Malaysians in the audience too.

Here are the flowers used, some of them imported and some local. The imported are tulips, calla lilies, hypericum and omprina. We saw new variant of cordyline sold there such as cordyline fruity and cordyline kiwi. The leaves look a bit small but more colourful.

Almost all of the flower arrangements in the demo were around 70% finished so she’s just add the finishing touch and gave us tips on how to make them, of course it’s a bit different with watching an arrangement made from scratch, however, the plus point is she can give more flower arrangements!

And finally the photo session!! Believe it or not this is the most tiring session of all. Pheew! I had to jostled, dodged being pushed to and fro just to get all the bridal bouquet and flower arrangements photos. Therefore if there’re some rather blurry ones, please forgive me J…. okaayy, just like our previous series, after this we will post all the gorgeous bouquets and flower arrangements one by one, so keep on checking …

City Garden City Life 2012 (4) : Rustic English Mini Garden - with animals!!!

English gardens are well known for their rustic natural look, no trimmed or neat looking plants (3B) here. This yellow wall (3A) becomes the focal point. To add a more wild look, add some animals (3E) on ground, columns and walls, and put them in poses to make them look more realistic.

As a base for the seating area, the designer used red bricks, with cushions in rustic brown pattern just thrown on top of it. Add also a plain natural colored coffee table and voila! A seating place was done. Just don’t forget to add the roof on top since this seating arrangement definitely won’t last in open air.

One very good tip from this garden is that using realistic and monotone color animals can enhance the theme and doesn’t make your garden look like a zoo…just look at the cute squirrel that looks realistic can blend in with the gold colored metal cranes. If the cranes also look realistic it will look too crowded and overdone in the mini garden, but done this way, it looks good.

A closer look on the gold colored metal animal statue, this metal chicken (3D) with mirror accents looks quite elegant I must say, since I never consider chicken as an option for garden statues, before I saw this one.

Also cute idea to put the rabbits (3E) in between the shrubs. Pick shrub types that won’t grow quickly, otherwise you will have to trim them often or else the rabbits will ‘dissapear’ J

Well, this styrofoam birds (3F) might not be applicable in real outdoor, but who knows? When you put the real trees in, the real birds might come and visit your garden……..

Hopefully we haven’t made you exhausted or confused with our many ideas, since we still have one more mini garden idea to share, this time it will be the white minimalist theme, so check on us soon!!!!

Church Flower Competition

Hi everyone, this is Little Flo again and I’m very happy to announce that a team from Margriet consists of my mom and auntie Jenny recently won the 2nd winner at a flower competition which took place at Multifunction Building of St. Gabriel, Jl. Sumber Mekar I-7/14 on Dec 7,2012. Eventhough it’s just a church competition the preparation has begun with mom searching for reference since a week before.

At 9.00 AM we have already arrived at the hall, do the registration, put the leaves on our table and leave again until 10 AM to start the competition. Turned out the flowers only consist of 5 stems of white gladiolus, 5 red gerberas, 5 white chrysanthemum and a bit of yellow spray daisies, so mom and aunt Jenny had to redesigned a bit….

10 AM sharp, mom and aunt Jenny started to pull all the flowers together, only 45 minutes to finish the arrangement, so no time to waste…sorry for the blurry pics since at first I want to take close up step by step picture of the process but alas, the committee banned supporters from the competition room L (FYI, rules are meant to be broken since I still saw some supporters sneaking in to take some pictures)

In the last 10 minutes mom n aunt Jenny busily put the finishing touch n cleaning up the table, since cleanliness is one of the points and voila!!!!! This is it….
Since not many flowers were provided by the committee they chose a simple model like T model and use many leaves to cover the flowers shortage.

And this is the front side of the flower arrangement

Quite a lot of tough competitors too, since many of them produced nice flower arrangements. Here are the rest of them.

After that, it’s waiting time. The competition itself took 45 minutes, however the judging process required 90 minutes waiting but finally the best 6 were announced and we’re one of them!!! Gyaaa…so happy J

And at the announcing time, the winners are... no.7 from ‘Martinus’ as the first winner, then the second winner is no.18 from ‘St. Peter Cathedral’, the third is no.11 from ‘Cimahi’.

So happy for my mom and auntie Jenny… now let’s find another challenge, mom!!!

Cheers,
Little Flo

Bouquet Parade (2) : Extraordinary Orchid Bridal Bouquet in Cascade Style

For those of you who hate ordinary product, this can be your inspiration...A look as intricate as this requires an artistic florist who can create a kind of bridal bouquet…. Oh no, you’re not imagining it, those green ones are indeed long green beans J

The base of this bridal bouquet requires black aluminum wire, lots of rattan bangles and long green beans. First, make some spiral from the aluminum wire. Then interlock a rattan bangle to the other to make a long chain. After that,  enter the long rattan chain into the black spiral wire and adjust the wire to make the shape of the bouquet. You can also use wire to fasten them for a neater result and finally insert the long beans here and there to make them look solid. Do not use glue, but looped or bent only. Do this carefully because it's easily cut off… (yes, it’s definitely not for amateurs)

Overall, the base of the bridal bouquet would look like this. The front and back side

After the base was done, the rest was just attaching the white phalaenopsis and purple omprina with floral adhesive and done!! You can see the finished look above.

And here’s the close-up look on details

Hope this will inspire you, and we’ll meet on the next bridal bouquet ideas!!!!

Tropical Theme Christmas 2012 Table Centerpiece

Back on flower arrangement for Christmas dinner, not many use the usual poinsettias and pinecones anymore, such as this table centerpiece, the designer Mrs. Hanny used anthurium, roses which are all tropical flowers.

This is how the flower centerpiece looked like from the guest’s view, the designer simply put 2 pillar & 2 taper candles on the right and left side and then place the the 'Avalanche' roses line up in the center, after that 3 anthuriums were placed around it and put 'Mohana' roses grouped to one side, then beautified the arrangement with the white, red and gold Christmas balls in different sizes. The last was cover the blank space with green foliage and pinecones. Unfortunately, the designer forgot to cover the area in front of the two pillar candles so that the floral foam was still seen there.

And this is how its look from the top.

Christmas Tree Décor 2012 in Silver Tone

Still from the IPBI Christmas demo, silver seems to be the favorite theme for this year’s Christmas, since our next Christmas tree idea which is from Mrs. Ling Ling also supports this color. The structure of the tree’s approximately 1.2 meter tall and adorned with artificial silver poinsettia flowers.

Tadaa!!! The Christmas tree itself was assembled together from assorted small sized salix twigs to form a minimalist tree and spray painted in black afterwards.

Side view of the Christmas tree, you can see details of white leaves hanging on the sides.

Details of the silver poinsettias

The leaves and the peonies in the middle

Tiny pearls in silver bullion wire looped all around the tree

And a few mini flower pom-pom hanging on the bottom
