Wedding Flower Ideas by Eunice Teo (1): Intro

Another wedding flower ideas series!!! Yup, this year we’re pushing it by giving you all more and more bridal bouquets and wedding flower ideas. This time it’s a flower demo from Eunice Teo, AIFD, she’s from Malaysia and there’s even some Malaysians in the audience too.

Here are the flowers used, some of them imported and some local. The imported are tulips, calla lilies, hypericum and omprina. We saw new variant of cordyline sold there such as cordyline fruity and cordyline kiwi. The leaves look a bit small but more colourful.

Almost all of the flower arrangements in the demo were around 70% finished so she’s just add the finishing touch and gave us tips on how to make them, of course it’s a bit different with watching an arrangement made from scratch, however, the plus point is she can give more flower arrangements!

And finally the photo session!! Believe it or not this is the most tiring session of all. Pheew! I had to jostled, dodged being pushed to and fro just to get all the bridal bouquet and flower arrangements photos. Therefore if there’re some rather blurry ones, please forgive me J…. okaayy, just like our previous series, after this we will post all the gorgeous bouquets and flower arrangements one by one, so keep on checking …

Wrapping Paper as an Accent

Well, this will be the last on the flower demo at Hero supermarket series. This time it's about flower bouquet again!!! Still on the flower bouquet trend, it will be bold color! The bouquet consists of chrysanthemums only but with two colors, red and yellow. Very simple round shaped bouquet, the accent is at the wrappings. Unlike simple wrappings, lots of small folded  wrapping paper in yellow colored (just like triangle napkin) were first attached to the bouquet. Then another layer of orange colored wrapping bouquet was added. Unique!!!

A Simple Gift Flower

Now, if you all wondering what exactly we did on the flower workshop at Hero supermarket last month, this is it.

Tadaaa!!!! A very cute and simple gift flower!!! This flower arrangements can be used as gift or as home décor. This is a new trend in which the flowers put side by side very tightly so that you can not see any empty place or can’t see the wet foam inside.

The grandma seriously put the flowers altogether. Since there were not many kinds of flowers used, so it’s not expensive. All you need were a small ceramic vase, some daisies, white roses and few indian bracelets as accessories.

Here’s the step by step :

1.      Prepare the pot and put wet foam inside

2.    Cut lots of daisies in same length, arrange then in four corner first to determine the radius of the flower arrangement. That was the old method (European Style) that we usually did before but here, use the new method, just place the daisies very tightly around the the oasis. The last method’s easier and quicker than the previous one but you have to keep the daisies in the same direction otherwise you’ll get unsymmetrical flower arrangements as a result!! So, which method you choose is up to you.

3.      Just put all the flowers side by side until the pot filled. By putting the flowers tightly side by side, the flower arrangements become more sturdy and can not easily broken if coincidentally rough touched. But off course it needs more flowers to do this.

4.      This is the outcome, but just daisies will be boring, so

5.      Put 2 white roses as focal point. It would be better if you choose the blooming ones.

6.      Done and here’s the result!

This is the final look after the indian bracelet attached. Cute, isn't it? It’s simple, even the first timer in arranging flowers at the workshop all managed to do it, so we’re sure you can do it also. Do try this at home and stay tune for our next post…..

The Bouquet Wrapping Ideas

Next on the flower workshop at Hero supermarket Bandung, was a demo and workshop on flower bouquet wrapping. Valentine’s still next year, but we’re very excited to see the wrapping technique!

Mmm… yellow, orange and spotlight green are said to be the wrapping color trend this year…. not to mention the bold red colored gerberas. First, the participants made the cascading flower bouquet by arranging few red gerberas, leaves of florida beauty, Xanadu or reptile split phylo and cordylne, secure it with floral tape. Next choose two color wrapping papers, wrap them one by one and last, tied the ribbons, and done!

The flowers were still red gerberas, but with lighter colored leaves and peach colored wrapping paper, the image instantly changed!!!

This is the wrapping bouquet made by Mrs. Winny for Hero supermarket. See that the white roses were first covered with yellow wrapping paper before being arranged.

Simple Recycle Idea

To make a flower arrangements for home décor, most people will think of expensive vase, a beautiful complicated arrangements and so on. Well, there’s price, there’s quality. A unique, and artful vase is surely expensive, but yes, they will give an elegant touch to your home. Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean that a more affordable vase will surely look bad and cheapy as a décor. This arrangement is one proof of it. Made by using used sauce bottles, the flower arrangement will make your house look more lovely and also help save the earth by reducing waste! What a good idea!!!

To make this arrangement, you will need yellow fiji, another varian of chrysanthemum, ivy leaves, floral green plastic tubes and some wire. First, fill in the floral tube with water then put its cap tightly. Put the stem of ivy into the tube through the cap then make circles of ivy. Do this until the desired thickness and size then secure with wire. Then put three green bottles (you can use beer bottles, sauce bottles etc, but best in same size and colors and labels removed). Put the ivy circle on them, secure the bottles and ivy circle together with wire (must be strong enough so not to fall off). Last, put one fiji or chrysanthemum flower in each bottle…done!!

And here is another idea of arranging the chrysanthemums : first get a small plastic used-bottle (you can use plastic bottles for yoghurt or other kinds of drink), wrap it with colored tisue paper, and put some furry wire around it, secure the wire to a long branch. Do the same with the other bottles and branches.Then just put the chrysanthemums into it!! So, now you have a pots-tree-like with chrysanthemum flower in it.

Flower Arranging Demo at Hero Supermarket

There’s a basket… there’re the flowers…. can you guess where we are?

Yeeessss!!!! We’re at a flower arranging demooo!!!! It seemed just yesterday that we posted a lot on IPBI demo regarding 2012-14 wedding bouquet trend, and guess what? This time it’s held at Hero Supermarket, BSM Mall Bandung. And we’re invited to come.

Whooaa, Hero supermarket sure has new concept! It’s more spacious with elegant interior, and not to mention nice lighting too!! No need to photoshop the picture! The flower demo were held near the entrance area. Here we saw the lecturers, Mrs. Angelina, Mrs. Winny and Mr. Okky. They’re divided into two sections, one on the flower pot part and the others were on the hand bouquet and wrapping part.

All the participants were eager to try out the flower pot arrangements, as not everyday you could attend a workshop like this for free.

Easter Bunny Flower Arrangement

Rabbits and eggs are usually being Easter ornaments. However this flower arrangement is somewhat different from similar ones. Let's look at these following pictures

Half-finished bunny flower arrangement made by Mrs. Hani. She used vase made of wood. The vase was surrounded by ‘rings’ made of young twigs which shaped like big rings, dried and then painted in silver.

The bunny flower arrangement in details. We can see all the materials used here. The colour combination is perfect and the marble egg looks exotic, too. But it's rather small that can’t be seen easily among those gorgeous flowers.

Surprise!!! Vegetable as Ornament for Easter Flower Arrangement

This time the demonstration was performed by Mrs. Natalia. We are used to calling her ‘Lia’ and so are the other members of 'Margriet' . Lia is an energetic young woman with many talents and very creative. As now, beyond expectations she used vegetables such as white and purple cabbage as ornaments on her flower arrangement. Surprising, ya?

At first, she had to make the box. It made of wood. You can used cheap wood such as 'albasiah' or salvage container wood. Fill the box with foam or oasis, then cover it with reptile split phylodendron. Now, ready to make the flower arrangement.

-        Split the white cabbage into 2 parts, then put each part on the box by using chopsticks. Don’t forget to give extra space between them. Do the same with the purple cabbage but this time don’t split and put it as whole cabbage. (image 1)

-       Then successively put roses of 'Amandini', 'Aleandra', and 'Avalanche' on the space between the white cabbage by using basing technique. (image 2)

-          After that place statice, hydrangea, baby roses and a strand of succulent (image 3)

-       Place the cymbidium orchids on the purple cabbage. Lia said that she had separated the cymbidium orchid to get the impression of more classy than the other flowers because besides this kind of orchid is not only beautiful but also expensive and moreover should be imported too. (image 4)

-        Then scatter seeds of mahogany fruit in front of the purple cabbage, place a big egg made of skin quail egg on it. And finally a thorn crown made of young twigs, dried and painted in silver, was placed above the flowers as a focus. (image 5 & 6)

Funky Purple Cross as Ornament for Easter

The base made of iron. It also used a frame to hold the flower arrangement itself and as a place where the oasis hung. He used 3 oasis (the two were placed above, passing through the left and right side and the other one was placed at the base)

The cross and the thorn wreath in close-up. They were made of styrofoam.

Detail at the back and front view. The flowers used are hydrangea, daisies, baby rose, chrysant, gerbera ‘oilila’, fresia, roses and lyciantus (imported). The foliage is ivy, ruscus, leather leaf, papyrus and philo sellum.

Mr. Natamadya used clustering or grouping technique in the center, basing and binding techniques at the base.

A Unique Vase for Easter

He used sheath of yellow palm as a vase. The sheath was nailed into a piece of branch functioned as a pivot and also serves as a place to hook wire from the oasis. The most important thing is to be stable. While the base was made of pieces of small twig glued, wired, and nailed.

This is what the finished-flower arrangement looks like. Beautiful, right?

The other material used is the twig of 'patah tulang' and rubber tree, seasal, and plastic eggs sprayed with silver colour. The flowers used are Amandini roses, fresia, hydrangea and dendrobium  orchids. The foliage used is ivy, sprengeri and cordyline leaves.

IPBI Monthly Gathering: Flowers Arrangements for Easter

The Union of Indonesia Floral Designers (IPBI) DPC Bandung, in its monthly gathering had performed a demonstration of 'Flower Arrangement for Easter' by Mr. Benny Natamadya at 'Gedung Wanita', jl. LLRE Martadinata 84 on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 10 - 12 am. It was attended by approximately 50 people from various backgrounds such as flowers entrepreneurs, florists, flowers hobbyist ... etc.

Mr. Natamadya brought his team, Mr. Hendra, Mrs. Hani, Mrs. Tania, Mrs. Natalia and Mr. Oei. They brought some semi-finished flower arrangements so that in about 2 hours they could demonstrate 6 items of 'Easter' theme. Very practical and time saving, isn't it?

Most of the flower arrangements being demonstrated refers to expressionist, a basic form which was developed into such a way that allows being other forms. According to Mr. Natamadya the idea came from spring in Europe. He said that it was commonly celebrated there and the colour was mostly yellow-orange-brown, or around the earth colour.

Ikatan Perangkai Bunga Indonesia (IPBI) DPC Bandung, dalam pertemuan bulanan anggota di bulan Maret ini mengadakan Demo ‘Rangkaian Paskah’ oleh Bp Benny Natamadya di Gedung Wanita, jalan LLRE Martadinata 84 pada hari Kamis, 22 Maret 2012 pukul 10.00 – 12.00

Bp Benny membawa timnya yang terdiri dari Bp. Hendra, Oei, Ibu Hani, Tania dan Natalia. Mereka juga membawa 6 buah rangkaian setengah jadi. Ini ide menarik, jadi dalam waktu kurang dari 2 jam mereka bisa meyelesaikan 6 buah rangkaian.

Acara dibuka dengan sambutan singkat dari ketua IPBI DPC Bandung, Ibu Ling Ling, kemudian demo merangkai bunga dengan tema ‘Paskah’-pun dimulai. Diawali oleh pak Hendra, ibu Tania & Hani lalu dilanjutkan oleh pak Beni dan ibu Natalia.

Menurut pak Benny, mereka merangkai bunga dengan aliran ekspresionis, yakni bentuk2 dasar yang dikembangkan sedemikian rupa sehingga menjadi bentuk2 lain. Idenya dari Paskah yang di Eropa identik dengan musim semi. Warna yang digunakan juga warna-warna yang umum dirayakan di Eropa seperti ungu, hijau dan juga warna2 tanah spt kuning – orange – coklat.

Tak terasa hampir 2 jam berlalu dan acara demo-pun berakhir pukul 11.45 setelah sebelumnya di undi door prize bagi para pengunjung. Selamat ya bagi yang beruntung.
